This was one of my favorite songs of the early 80s. Stations that played underground funk played this one regularly, so I always thought of it as funk. It was very popular in early 1982 but it could have been released in fall of '82. I just remembered that it was cloudy and cool during its popul...

Fear of the unknown is usually the cause of prejudice and other negativity. I've been to Japan many times but never lived there. I recently experienced some negative things as described here. @csh042968 Really! Seems to have been ahead of its time. And how did that video get any air play when MTV didn't even allow black music videos until around 1983, unless they were "crossovers" like Michael Jackson's? Funk was very much underground in the early 80s. That's probably one of the r...

Remember this one very well. This is about the time when early 80s funk began to fade as a result of the break dancing craze. It was all pretty much downhill after this year. Funk never regained its short-lived status like it did in the early 80s.

From early spring '82. Another very (probably more) popular song off this album was Cinco de Mayo. '82 was probably the best ever year for 80s funk. Technology was not ubiquitous and boring as it was after '83.

@scorpionJB Yes, agree. Creativity began slowly losing waning after 1983. After hip hop went mainstream in the fall of 1983 with the help of the media, I lost interest in what I heard on the radio. Funk was much better when it was mostly underground. So many songs were complex and filled with pol...

You're right. I think it's the grafitti tattoos that a lot of those guys had on the back of their necks that also influenced other groups like 1% bikers back in the mid to late 50s. At least that's what one of the leaders of a well-known biker group said.
