A three time Olympic Champion, Moses is revered as the best 400-Meter Hurdler of all time. Named among ESPN's 50 greatest North American athletes of the century.
Born in Dayton, Ohio where he attended Fairview High School, from there he attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia on a scholastic scholarship majoring in physics and engineering where he received his Bachelor of Science in Physics Degree. He received his MBA from Pepperdine University.
In 1976 he won his first Olympic Gold Medal in Montreal, Canada in the 400-Meter Hurdles competition, finishing at 47.63 seconds. In 1984 he returned to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles where he won his second Olympic Gold, finishing at 47.75 in the 400-meter hurdles. He returned to the Olympic Games in 1988 in Seoul, Korea where he won the Bronze Medal in the 400 meter hurdles 47.56 seconds.
Edwin Moses set the bar in Track & Field competition and is renowned world-wide for his phenomenal career in which he went unbeaten for 9 Years, 9 Months, and 9 Days, during which he was victorious in 122 consecutive track & field competitions, a phenomenal record known world-wide as "The Streak", a record that still goes unbeaten.
Today Edwin Moses is a Global Ambassador In The World of Sports, serving as Chairman of Laureus Sports Academy (www.laureus.com), an international sports organization of which he has served as Chairman since it's inception in 2000. In addition, he has served as a member of the US Presidential Commission on the White House Fellowships; and as chairman of several committees for the IOC (International Olympic Committee), and is recognized throughout the world of sports for his work as Chairman of Substance Abuse Research & Education (CSARE) in which he was a leader in developing drug control practices & procedures for the United States Olympic Committee.
Edwin Moses's reputation as an athlete of impeccable integrity and a great Olympic Champion precedes him as he travels around the world. As Chairman of the Laureus Sports Academy, he is constantly on the go - globe hopping from continent to continent, using the power of sports to help tackle pressing social challenges through a worldwide programme of sports and related community development initiatives funded and supported by the Laureus Sports for Good Foundation.
