Here and Heaven (Live)
Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, Stuart Duncan, Yo-Yo Ma, and Aoife O'Donovan perform "Here and Heaven" from the album The Goat Rodeo Sessions.
Hard-charging Celtic-American chamber music with just a hint of the far east in the cello solo -- the combination of passion and precision is simply breathtaking! The changes recall the Punch Brothers' "Rye Whiskey" and the approach reminds me of Abigail Washburn's "Sparrow Quartet" project. I ...

Robert Plant"s friends do Patti Griffin's song
Outstanding in every way -- kudos to Mr. Plant for putting his ego in his back pocket and giving this utterly transcendent band room to do their thing in so many diverse and vastly entertaining ways!

A beautiful job by all concerned -- I love the way Patty Griffin's dead-on acoustic strumming holds the whole thing together.

Robert Plant, She has Funny Cars ~ Gallows Pole ~ Bid You Good Night!!!
Band of Joy covers Jefferson Airplane and revists Leadbelly's "Gallis Pole" @ the Greek in Berkeley, 4-22-11
Wow -- "She Has Funny Cars" is like time travel back to '67-'68, the most productive and innovative period in the history of rock! This great song comes from back when the Airplane, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, and Moby Grape (not to mention The Beatles, Stones, and of course Bob Dylan) were ...

Never use a striking tool like a hammer for this kind of work, especially when working with brittle material like alnico -- use pliers and cushion the jaws with a rag. Pickup factories use an arbor press, but that's not likely to be in a home workshop -- an 8-10 inch slip-joint or channel-lock p...

That's not the house band -- that's Plant's new "Band of Joy." Buddy Miller leads both bands, but the "Band of Joy" has Byron House on bass and Marco Giovino on drums in addition to Patty Griffin and the amazing multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter Darrell Scott.

I too was duly impressed -- what a nice balance between the lilting Indian feel of the verses and the anthemic, western-style refrain. The use of tabla and Carnatic violin was beautifully tasteful too -- nicer imo than the thicker, louder arrangement of the CD version. Even the subtle contrast ...

Robert Plant at Palais des sports MISTY MOUNTAIN HOP
Robert Plant and the band of joy at PALAIS DES SPORTS Paris on the 24/10/10
I love how Buddy and Darrell have come up with a fresh new guitar riff for this ancient Zep chestnut -- a huge improvement that just happened naturally over the course of the tour. These people really are a "Band of Joy" and not just some famous rock star's vanity project -- kudos to everyone in...

Robert Plant You Can't Buy My Love Andrew Marr Show Sept 2010
First TV performance of a track from Robert Plant's forthcoming album Band Of Joy.
This one reminds me of the early Beatles with Lennon singing lead at their very best, emulating the American music they loved -- albeit with a few decades more experience and hard-earned wisdom. Rumor has it that Robert and the BOJ will be on U.S. TV's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" tonight (act...

Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy, live @ HMV Forum, London 02.09.10
First date of 2010 European Tour
Filmed by phgregoire with Flip cam
Great vocals, as usual, but I like their version of OTHAFA better with two acoustic guitars like they did it on the American gigs in July -- I think Darrell, at least, should put down the Gretsch and go back to his Taylor for that song. A minor quibble, but there it is....

Intense! This band just keeps getting better and better -- the vocal blend on this one is extraordinary, and the interplay between Darrell Scott's open-back banjo and Buddy Miller's 12-string acoustic is just wonderful. All in all, a clear improvement over the already-excellent versions from th...
