Esperanza Garcia was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines. In 2011, she will pursue her studies at Yale University & Columbia University. She is co-founder & director for International Youth Council. Since 2007, IYC has provided educational resources & leadership opportunities to hundreds of young global leaders.

In 2010, she was a consultant for the Philippine Senate Oversight Climate Change Committee. She founded the Philippine Youth Climate Movement, visiting schools & universities in the Philippines, awarding climate heroes & raising climate change awareness. In four months, PhilYCM engaged 50,000 young Filipinos in the campaign to urge the Filipino youth to take action on Climate Change. After the Senate, she worked as a consultant for Friendship Ambassadors Foundation, where she focused her efforts in organizing the 7th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations attended by hundreds of young global leaders. She was a consultant for the Millenium Development Goal Awards Committee, honoring efforts by governments & civil society in their contribution towards the achievement of the MDGs. She was also consultant for South-South News, which works with UN agencies to help South-South countries develop programs. She was a journalist for UNICEF's 'Unite for Climate' Campaign & South-South News covering news from the UN General Assembly & Clinton Global Initiative, interviewing heads of states, A-list celebrities, & nobel laureates on their work helping humanity.

She served as a negotiator & official delegate of the Philippines at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen '09 & in Cancun '10. Esperanza has received awards on youth leadership and is invited to speak at international conferences, including the UN, on the importance and necessity of young people's engagement in global affairs and environmental sustainability. She is a proud mother of a 6 year old, who is her inspiration.
