In Linux, you can control automount in /etc/fstab. Also, one of mount's options is noexec which doesn't allow any direct execution of binaries from the mounted file-system. Probably doesn't help a ton, but it's possibly useful.

For those learning Python, one of the best features of the interpreter is the help() function. For instance, to find out about the replace function, open up the Python interpreter and type:
help(str.replace)
and voila! a complete description of replace's interface.
