Classic Instrumentals & Surf Instrumentals
About Me:
I love Instrumental Guitar Music. I have very diverse tastes! Favorite guitars are my DiPinto Galaxie, Fender Telecaster, and my two Fender Jazzmasters. Favorite Bands are The Ventures, England's Shadows, & Los Straitjackets. I'm also an Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck fan. Yardbirds (Beck Era) & Cream top the list of vocal bands!
My favorite band on You Tube is from Japan. They are called BCV. (Also With "Little Terry Kohei") . (WOW!!) Look in my favorites selections for their video's! It's worth your time!!! My favorite individual player is also from Japan. Kohji has produced a series of excellent video's. Again check out my favorites to find his work. There are many skilled players from the UK and Europe playing Shadows and Ventures material. I enjoyed the late Jet Harris. Again check my Favorites.
Neil LeVang and Buddy Merrill from Lawrence Welk's show were huge early influences on me to play Guitar. I watch every you tube clip I can find of them! See Vintage Guitar Magazine's article on Neil LeVang in the December 09 issue, and Buddy was featured in February 2003. Their careers went way beyond the Welk show. Check them both out online.
Duane Eddy has had a lifelong effect on me. The first rock song I learned was Rebel Rouser. He's still touring and rocking the house supporting a new album (CD) just released!! He's a living legend, and a great player! We are performing several of his tunes in the X-ChromaTones! I was lucky to see him talk about his career and do some playing at the "Rock Hall" a few years ago.
Santo & Johnny's classic Sleepwalk, always gets a wonderful response. The unforgettable Mr. Guitar Chet Atkins, Glen Campbell and the lightning fingers of Roy Clark. Ventures Bob Bogle, Nokie Edwards, Gerry McGee, Don Wilson & Bob Spalding top off my list of legendary players!
Brad Paisley, Keith Urban & Vince Gill are the best of current country players. I listen to country music old and new. Most of today's best players are in country or roots music. Deke Dickerson & "Crazy" Joe Tritchler are two of the best Rockabilly/ Roots players I've ever seen or heard! Simply amazing!! Slash is also a great player. He has a sense of melody and plays with good taste. Jimmy Vivino, Brian Seltzer, Don Rich, Carlos Santana, Wally Bryson (Raspberries) Marty Stewert & Band and Peter Frampton are also on my list! And those guys in Lynyrd Skynyrd & ZZ Top are pretty damn good! Tai Wikenfeld tops it off on Bass. If you don't know who she is find out. She's toured with Jeff Back!!
The X-ChromaTones are looking forward to 2012! Bass man "Kamikaze" Chris McNichol has returned. Drummer Dick "Dynamite" Kandalec continues on drums, & I'll be on guitar!! Tommy Stanger has returned on guitar! Surf's up in Northeast Ohio. There's really Surf on Lake Erie!!
