About Me:

Dub Gabriel has been pushing the boundaries of the New York electronic scene for over 10 years. Coming up as a musician/producer/DJ/promoter on the streets of Williamsburg Brooklyn in the mid 90's, his musical explorations led him to the anarchic fringes of the downtown NY scene and the guerilla-electro-mysticism of Wordsound and The Baraka Foundation. Drinking deep from this dangerous brew of unyielding creativity, DG pushed out into space and our world have never been the same since.

His slamming (and now legendary) underground Brooklyn Massive parties kicked-off in the late 90's and continue to take people by storm. Artists that have held it down with DG include Public Enemy, Mussafir, Jamalski, Umar Bin Hassan, Dr. Israel, Deep Space (Francois K.), Badawi, Mutamassik, DJ Olive, Qaballah Steppers, and many others. To say that his aesthetic is diverse is an understatement but one common thread that persists is his relentless pursuit of the bass. DG continues to build on this legacy in everything he does -- whether it's pushing the boundaries of his original music, remixing other projects or playing out live. Touring regularly all over Europe and recently headlining a series of shows in Beijing, China, DG continues to build up a loyal and eclectic worldwide cult following that counts many revolutionaries, mystics, musicians and celebrities in its ranks.

On the recording front, DG dropped his first full length, Ascend (Baboon Records) in '03 and followed it up with the low-end assault of Bass Jihad (Azra) in '05. Bass Jihad spent over two months on CMJ's Charts, achieved international critical acclaim from publications including Billboard (who compared him to Brian Eno!), Interview, XLR8R, Village Voice, LA Weekly, New York Times, SF Weekly, Resonance and Paste, and ended up on several influential best-of-the-year lists. The word is definitely out and he is gaining much demand as a remixer having reinterpreted tracks for Balkan Beat Box (Crammed/J Dub), Raiz (Universal, Italy), Tigarah (Universal, Japan) and many others.

2006 found DG in Berlin with a residency at one of the city's most scandalized (and short-lived) nightclubs, Goya. With plenty of newfound time on his hands (and a fat studio rig courtesy of his previous employers) he immersed himself in the incredible wealth of underground electronic music the city has to offer and laid down the foundation for what is now his new album, Anarchy & Alchemy. Returning to the US in 2007 to complete the album, he brought together an incredible crew of international guests and collaborators that include Michael Stipe (REM), Dr. Israel (Praxis, Method of Defiance), Yo Majesty (Domino Records), 77Klash, Jah Dan, Juakali (Pinch/Dub War), Maga Bo, Oz Fritz (Tom Waits/Bill Laswell), Scotty Hard (Wu-Tang), Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto/Tino Corp), Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls), Mee (Asian Dub Foundation/Smashing Pumpkins), No Surrender, Kiva, Judith Juillerat, Karen Gibson Roc, Other Weapons, Kali Boom, She Rah, D.R. Mafia and The San Francisco Revolutionary Orchestra Dub Gabriel is on a mission - Anarchy & Alchemy is his message.

PRESS QUETS Picture a post-apocalyptic Brooklyn rooftop, somewhere in the not too distant future. The scene is drenched in a smog-orange sunset haze as a large spaceship, bristling with speakers and pumping bass like a soundsystem truck from 1970's Kingston touches down. The spectacle attracts a dusted assemblage of Rastafarian monks and Bedouin Shamans, coming out of the woodwork to call our collective ancestors like they've done since the beginning of time. This is close to the scene evoked by resident Brooklyn DJ/Producer/Mad Scientist Dub Gabriel. -Glide magazine His tracks variously bring to mind moments of Thievery Corporation, Bill Laswell and Brian Eno, But overlays these influences with Gabriel's distinctive flair. *CRITICS PICK! -Billboard Gabriel firmly embraces an identity formed by a punk rock youth a progressive spiritual consciousness and equal adoration for dub electronic and world music traditions. -Resonance The cross-cultural fusion is a philosophical masterpiece. --.XLR8R Enough bass-powered propulsion here to keep most nu dubheads amused for hours. -Wire Plays like a Kubrickian soundtrack for future societies where all the worlds instruments are thrown into one circle and the orgy is conducted by none other than archangel Gabriel himself. -Paste A top producer in the electronica scene. All Music Guide New York-based producer-artist Dub Gabriel, a frequent flier in international dance scenes, supplies the bigness and relentlessness you need for a modern dub fix. -LA Weekly Because everybody and their mom can essentially be aDJ and/or producer these days, its hard to discern what's worth paying attention to in the electronica worlds. That said, Brooklynite Gabriel is well worth your time-much like Thievery Corporation, he uses alot of "world" influence, but comes off more darker and disturbed. -Village Voice Brooklyn based Producer Dub Gabriel 's on the warpath -Global Rhythm magazine A great excuse to get your subwoofer pushing out some serious pressure. -Discorder A truly remarkable album a spectacle of percussion and production and one of the best dub albums of recent memory. -Iimpose Mmagazine If you're ever interested in hearing some of the best dub out there you must pick up this essential album. -Smother Magazine New school Dub Phenomena -Ottawa X Press Dub Gabriel, a low-end theorist on a holy war to transform the world with bass. -Indian Electronica
