He shouldn't pirate it. ID software is too epic to deserve that. More importantly, most pirated software is filled with viruses. Too risky.

Thank you! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I knew that I needed a compiler, but I had no idea why the program didn't come with one. Not only did you explain the solution very well, you did it in a way that somone like me (new to C & C++), can understand.

I have the exact same problem! Glad to see I'm not the only one... I tried reinstalling Doom builder, and that didn't work. So I think it might be a bug in the Doom builder source code.
