I'm sure most of you have seen this Bill Hicks clip or another one like it but if you haven't then check it out it's one of the most important statements anyone's made for the past coupla centuries with the possible exception of Hugh Everett's many worlds thesis and Charles Darwin's explanation of evolution through natural selection.

Racism, nationalism, greed and religion are nothing more than reflections of the despair that is felt by those living under systems as cruel and mundane as capitalism or feudalism. When people realise that the improvement of ourselves is more noble than the glory of an inglorious god or state, the irrationality of these beliefs will be wholly transparent.

The internet, creative commons licences and file sharing have created a cultural epoch that has never been seen in our history. Until now art could only be coveted and hoarded but now it can be appreciated and relished, not just by a phalangeal elite but by everyone. Capitalists cannot morally justify making money from a product when the means to produce that product is no longer under their control. I resent paying for ebooks and downloaded tunes because the companies that make money from them never had to create the product as they would from cassettes, cds, books, records or dvds. These companies want to fuck you in the arse and then wipe their cock on your curtains. For these reasons I've included some of my favourite websites below that provide legal downloads or access to the material (many thanks to my pal Cindy for putting me in touch with some of them).
