It seems to be about the same tension. I also do eastern-style purling, where the stitch ends up mounted backwards, because I find it easier (especially in ribbing).

Lining with the ripstop nylon is just brilliant. Cuts down on fluff very well!

Good idea! I will see what I can rig up.
I'm 90% sure it's the same as the Japanese method, but without the paperclips. I've also been experimenting with using a bit of contrasting scrap yarn to mark the turn. I'll try to get a video of that too.
