@fullboxxskater perhaps you meant the 60mm macro, which also offers 1:1; in either case 1:1 is 1:1, you can't get any closer with these lenses. What the 100mm allows you to do (versus the 50 or 60mm lens) is be farther away from your subject. This has several advantages in macro work: more backg...

@urbanverificationist with a tripod you can achieve similar results, but the L lens is obviously sharper (you get what you pay for). That being said, the 60mm does provide a lot of bang for the buck is you don't have 1K to throw at the L. However, I'd prefer to have the 100mm non-L over the 60mm...
