About this user

I'm Donovan. I am 12 years old. I started playing music when I was 8 years old.

I first started by teaching myself to play soundtrack music on the piano with no guide or reference. I soon realized I could play piano effortlessly, and that I could write music just as good or even better than the music I'd been learning.

So I began writing my own music and soon had about 50 songs when my dad decided to record demos of the songs/song ideas on a 4-track recorder, so I wouldn't forget the songs.

My dad had recorded a few albums in 2 bands he used to be in. Using those contacts, he set up studio time so I could record my songs.

In August of 2010, about a week before I entered 6th grade, I recorded my first song professionally, called "22 Theory".

Because of the trip to the studio, I was interviewed for a story for The Frederick News-Post, and was on its website. My song has been played regularly during fireworks shows at the Frederick Keys Baseball stadium, and used as the walk-up music for the Keys' catcher as he goes up to bat.

In August 2011, I recorded 3 more songs at the studio.

I have also taught myself to play keyboard, piano, electric guitar (lead and rhythm), acoustic guitar, drums and some bass.

I also earned a scholarship to the Frederick School of Rock because of these talents, and have been notified that I am a semi-finalist in the World Poetry Movement contest of Summer 2011.
