I think that the law can often be petty and let's face it, the street musician isn't hurting anyone; he's not dealing merchandise. On the other hand, the officers were VERY polite. Be grateful for that. Even in the democratic US, the police can be as physically brutal as they want. Then consider the police in third-world countries and their brutality. There's no perfect system, most cops are just doing their job, but shit dude, you Brits have it good when it comes to the law.
