Check out Kevin Ancell, if you haven't heard of him. He kind of does the surf art thing. He has this amazing painting where a guy is backing off a big wave and there are two skeletons clutching him and one has ripped out his spinal column and the dudes screaming in terror. I can't find a picture of it but it's pretty awsome.

hey I was thinking that since you paint universal sort of paintings that maybe you have to paint large amounts of stars like milk way type clusters. so any way I'm in the middle of a painting and I want to paint like a gravel walkway and it's a lot of minute detail that I want, but I'm not sure how to get it without it blending and looking dumb. do you have any techniques where you can get like tiny dots of paint on a canvas that's well controlled?

bumstick! i think thats what it is called...i don't recall. I just heard it from another youtube oil painting video from a guy painting John Lennon. It looked like in one of your vids you were resting your hand on the canvas, well with the stick you put it on canvas and rest your wrist across the stick. it's for the big paintings, to help keep your hand oil off and not to smudge. idk if it helps, but i said it :D
