they are quite voracious eaters. this is our new aquarium resident, Morey. he loves krill, but has very poor vision so has to sniff them out. but he sure does love to eat.

the gymnothorax tile is sold as a "freshwater eel", but they really need brackish water as they mature, so he'll be getting his own tank soon. he's so totally worth it.

Moray eels have a second set of jaws in their throat called pharyngeal jaws, which also possess teeth. When feeding, morays launch these jaws into the oral cavity, where they grasp struggling prey and transport it into the throat and down to the rest of the digestive system. Moray eels are the only known type of animal that uses pharyngeal jaws to actively capture and restrain prey. Larger Morays are capable of inflicting serious wounds to humans."
