Home(ly) Recordings 1985 - 1997

Punch-ins. Tape hiss. FM synthesis and AM radio-quality sound. I wrote and recorded these 50 or so tracks back in the bad old days of analog. None are demos per se, but simply first attempts at putting the music in my head on 1/8" tape, however often my untrained fingers or voice might have failed me; most have in fact remained unheard by anyone other than the few outside musicians who occasionally entered into my process--until now. I'm including at least one track from each album recorded since 1985; all are the product of cheap Fostex and Tascam 4- and 8-track home-studio gear, cranked out during spare and sly moments as I made my way through college, the army, grad school. Listen closely and you'll hear passages from the only diary I ever bothered to keep, etched in chrome with cheap microphones and punctuated by drum machines. They may not reveal much to you, but for the author, they still read in the present tense, every step of their creation an open memory.
