@bcushing Not true. You have to get permission from the song owner in order to record it. Live performance is a different game. Hence the reason you see so few recorded covers of Who songs. Or Prince songs.. etc.

I've been involved in music/recording for 30 years now... although I took a fairly lengthy hiatus from recording (I got sick of hearing cover versions of Jesse's Girl), but am now back into it with using ProTools. I've done CD's for Even To The Stars, D-Railed, nativemind, and Cuba. All of these bands exhibit great songwriting, musical talent, and love for their music. Cuba has finished their second CD 'Epilogue' and it's quite awesome. Buy it or download it from the usual online sources. Cuba is back in the studio recording their third album and nativemind is back at work on their second album. B.G. McPike and the Haute Club are back in working on their second CD. Please check these bands out! It's worth your time. I also produced and recorded Brent McPike - tremendous guitar player/professor at ISU, and am working with Christina Blust - amazing voice and songwriter, and the usual gang of musicians who are part of the Syndicate.I do recording/producing at no charge to the bands because there's too much great talent out there that goes unheard as your typical working musician can't afford quality recording. The bands and musicians I choose to work with share a number of common attributes: creativity, talent, a joy for performing, and openess to suggestion, as well as just being very decent people. I do however expect that if the bands I work with get signed or makes significant money off of what we create, that a small part of it is shared with me. It's not greed, it's just that I'd like to buy more toys for the studio.
I'm not interested in doing metal, country, rap or barbershop quartet music at all. This isn't a statement about the validity of those musical styles, just personal preferences. Acoustic, alternative, hard rock, jazz, classical are some of the genre's I'm interested in. I'm now looking for a new project, so if you're in the Terre Haute area, and meet the criteria above, let me know, maybe we can work together...
Holy cow.. this is fantastic.
