Very fine playing by the soloists, who dialogue beautifully and sensitively with each other. Youthful passion, yet a mature approach to the music. Technique to spare, fine intonation; they obviously care deeply about the music. A delight, even with the limitations of an amateur orchestra.

John Miller is as fine a bassoonist as they come. What a beautiful sound! And impeccable musicianship as well.

When he started the first aria an octave lower, I wondered whether we was going to attempt a contra G, doable for some profondos. But of course he didn't. I think Miller's beautiful bass voice is well suited to Russian music.
