About Me:

I have been interested in technology since playing with BASIC programs and Bulletin Board Systems in the early 1980's.

I have been a professor of Communication at Denison University in Ohio, and at Marymount Manhattan College in NYC, where I taught courses in communication and technology, focusing on mobile computing, blogging, podcasting, and tagging.

In 2005, with the help of my students at Marymount, I created ArtMobs, a project designed to build participatory systems for art museum and gallery guests. The first project focused on cell phone text messaging: My students and I, along with the NYC based art and technology group YellowArrow, built a cell phone text messaging system that allowed guests of Marymounts art gallery to leave messages about works of art for other guests to read on their cell phones.

The second ArtMobs project, conducted in the Spring of 2005, focused on creating unofficial audio tours of MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in NYC. My students and I created a variety of audio tours and made them available as a podcast for the public to download to their iPods and take with them to the museum. The project became the subject of a New York Times cover story, and stories and interviews on BBC World television, BBC World radio, and NPRs Talk of the Nation and On the Media.

Subsequently, I lectured at Duke University symposium on podcasting, consulted for a number of museums and art associations, and wrote articles for international museum magazines.

In the Fall of 2005 I left academia to work for Griffin Technology, the largest manufacturer of iPod accessories in the world. In 2006 I became Director of Intellectual Property Management at Griffin, and in 2007 became Director of User Experience Research. While I continue to direct Griffin's UX research, in August of 2008 I became Director of Business Development. I live in Nashville, Tennessee, home of Griffins corporate headquarters.
