Hi! I'm Daniel Mackler, and for ten years I was a psychotherapist in NYC. Now I am a filmmaker -- just completed two new feature-length documentaries on alternative recovery programs for people experiencing psychosis.

And now that I'm done with that project...I'm a bit lost! (Which I suppose is good.)

Interests: childhood trauma, schizophrenia, therapy, emotional healing without medication, enlightenment, and taking the risk!!
Country:
United States

Hey Daniel, I see on here that you say you are 'done with that project' and looking at what to do next. I felt I should tell you how much I enjoy your early videos (2009) on various general psychology topics. I'm not even sure how I originally found them on YouTube.... But, I find myself returning to certain ones... in particular the one on 'enlightenment' and 'self-therapy' etc. I would love if now in 2012, you had any additional thoughts or growth on what you did 3 years ago? I just thought I would mention it in case you are looking for any new topics.

I see one of your interests is schizophrenia, have you ever read "Pigs in the Parlor" by Frank and Ida Mae Hammond. My impression is that you may not be a Christian due to some of your comments in your posts. But, give this book a try, it is Christian based, but look at it as research. There is a very interesting chapter on schizophrenia. You're doing a great job w/all your videos.

do you realize that schizophrenia has nothing to do with the so called brain chemistry imbalance? modern psychiatry is about two steps ahead of blood letting... and mindfulness is the bomb!
i see you're in new york... i'm in new jersey...

Thanks for your respnse, I agree, labels are insulting. My wx, a clinical psychologist, called me a narcissist. it hurts and I find myself wondering if I am one or if she was just projecting. I did find that extreme childhood abuse and especially neglect can be the cause of it. I do have empathy but i have alot of trauma I don't remember, I still dissociate and never remember my dreams. I am doing self therapy in a sense, a beginner

about mindfulness: i think it's great, but the problem i have with it is that it's a popular new word for something that every good therapist and therapy does -- and people have done it for eons. i know people who use the word mindfulness in a way that implies that only they (and buddhist types) do it, and that they have the edge on the market for it... to me it's just self-reflection...

also, i never diagnosed people with personality disorders. too many therapists use those diagnoses as an insult to a person, and i think they can be very hurtful labels. i think there are so many ways to help people without using the labels... and i don't know much about oxytocin...
