Thermoelectric Device Demonstration Peltier Effect - Cooling

@MrInfinity2088: This heat sink was a standard computer CPU heat sink. You can pick them up at most stores that carry desktop computer parts like CPUs and motherboards, etc. I believe this one was just taken out of an old, discarded computer. (Recycling is always good!) As for attachment: yes...

If you stack one device atop another, using twice as much power, you may be able to get the cold side of the top device a bit colder initially because you will be actively cooling the hot side of that device, thus decreasing the amount of heat that can diffuse back to the cold side. As you conti...

@gonioelect Hi, this was a bismuth telluride module and the temperature difference it can produce depends on several things. The heat sink and the power input. This setup has a range of about -20 to 120 degrees C, but soon that heat sink will be saturated and that range will decrease on the col...

@YamiPoyo Yes, this can, but remember, you will be generating more heat on the hot side of the device. It will require a fan, just the same as a heat sink on the CPU already has. CPUs need to run warm, so you don't want to make it too cool...

@tutun777 Hi. I'd suspect maintaining 4deg would be more work. I don't think it'd be a problem leaving it at 25...you should be all double stranded DNA and excess primers at 25 and the polymerase should not be able to bind many places where it can extend long sequences. I think the best way to te...

1200 C water quench quartz ampule fail Solid State Chemistry

Water quenching is great fun, but be sure to seal your quartz ampule very well.

@libtechsk8er : Actually, with quality, clean quartz glass, this quench is a very routine process. The ampule in this video had some defect and as you can see, did not survive the thermal shock. One way to avoid this is to use thicker walled quartz tubes, adding strength to resist thermal shock.
