About this user
DJ Wreck was born Ralph Mercado III in the Bronx, New York in 1981. Raised as the son of music impresario Ralph Mercado, DJ Wreck was surrounded by music since the day he was born. Ralph first started exercising his musical talents at family gatherings, where he would always be asked to play the music, using only a cd player and two tape decks. This was the beginning of Ralph making his way to becoming one of the most sought after DJs in New York City.
In 1998 Ralph started his nightclub career at the age of 17 when he played teen parties at The Sound Garden in New Jersey. It was during this time where Ralph received the name DJ Wreck. In 1999 DJ Wreck moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he began spinning at such venues as The Roxy, Whos On First, and Club Absolute, to name a few.
Shortly after his return to New York in 2001 DJ Wreck had the fortune of playing for one of NYCs most influential promoters, John Gungie Rivera. It was with Gungie and his stable of talent where DJ Wreck began to grow and expand his musical ability and venture into different aspects of music, apart from just being a DJ. With these new skills DJ Wreck turned his attention to producing and remixing, releasing several albums for AV8 records (a pioneering record label that focused on DJs and their remixing and blending abilities). In 2004 DJ Wreck had the honor of being asked to help produce a remix album for the illustrious EL Gran Combo called Revisited. After many years in the urban market it was Revisited that began to give DJ Wreck national recognition in the Latin market.
In 2005 DJ Wreck had the opportunity to display his abilities live in front of thousands of people at the world famous Madison Square Garden. Following four separate appearances at MSG, DJ Wreck was asked to be a guest DJ at New Yorks WSKQ 97.9FM La Mega. He first started a special radio segment called La Batalla hosted by Alex Sensation. His incredible knowledge of Latin music and urban mixing style made him an instant fan favorite. After several guest appearances DJ Wreck moved up to doing mixes every Saturday for the king of radio, Mr. Polito Vega. After taking two years off from being a DJ, Wreck returned to the New York City club seen with a renewed vigor. And once again in 2009 DJ Wreck was asked to return to radio, only this time for Univision on their flagship station WCAA 105.9FM La Kalle.
DJ Wrecks love of music, incredible talents, and versatile music selection (ranging from Hip-Hop, Salsa, R&B, Bachata, House, Merengue, Reggae, Reggaeton, and more) has given him the opportunity to travel and play for the masses worldwide. With that DJ Wreck has become one of the most coveted DJs and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
