About this user

First and foremost, this channel was inspired by DJ Tutor (www.djtutor.com). I spent some time talking with him at MBLV09 and saw the number of people he's touched by sharing his knowledge about being a DJ. I've become a light guru and thru this channel I'm going to share everything I know, do and use with all of you.

I started my dj career in late 2000 at Aqua Bar and Nightclub in Citrus Heights. I was the resident patio DJ for Friday and later Saturday nights. In 2003 I began the transition to weddings and have been going non-stop ever since. Initially I worked as a contract DJ for another entertainment company and in 2005 I founded Encore Entertainment and this has been my full-time career for the past 2 years. It's been quite a journey, starting out with a Numark mixer, a B52 Matrix 1000 sound system and my laptop computer. Now we operate dedicated computer mixing consoles with Denon DNX mixers, Gigaport HD audio cards, Bose L1 sound systems and Sennheiser wireless equipment. In 2006 I picked up a few light fixtures and quickly caught the lighting bug. I love putting together large lighting productions and I'm always trying out new equipment and techniques in the never ending effort to create a better show. While I still guest DJ at bars and nightclubs a couple times a month, Weddings account for 70% of my business and Corporate events account for the remainder.

Along the way I held numerous related jobs, spent 8 months as a technician & board operator for a recording studio, consulted with churchs on sound equipment and installs, and worked for the Sacrameto Kings as a broadcast engineer (2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons). I spend alot of time playing with electronics, taking things apart to see how they work, building various electronic circuits and playing with radio equipment. I've been a licensed amateur radio operator since 2000 (K9WWV).

Lighting Equipment
A lot of people ask me how we put toghether our lighting displays (I call them shows), what equipment we use, how we created this effect or that effect, etc. These questions led me to create this website. I've learned a lot over the years and I want to help others in our business create shows on the level we do while possibly skipping some of the difficult "learning" experiences we have.

Over the years I've gathered a garage full of lighting gear. I won't list it all but for the majority of our shows we pull from the following inventory:

8 Chauvet Q Scan 250 scanners
4 Chauvet Intimidator 2.0 HTI scanners
50 Colorkey 10mm Par 64 LED cans (for uplighting)
40 Chauvet Colorsplash Jr LED cans (for table back-lighting)
12 Par-38 100 watt MSD (I custom-made these for ceiling lighting or wide area wash lighting)
38 MDT Par-38 150 watt cans (rarely used now)
2 Chauvet Revo III lights
4 Chauvet Intimidator 1.2 scanners (rarely used now)
2 American DJ Reflex LED lights
Chauvet Bubble-King
American DJ and Chauvet Fog machines
The number of fixtures we use and which fixtures we use depend on what the client is looking for and their budget.
