About this user
I grew up on the northwest sides of Chicago around Logan Square and Humboldt Park areas after migrating from Brooklyn, NY in the 70's. I was turned on to house music back in 1983 when I went to Jenal's Disco on Fullerton & Pulaski. On that night Dj Kenny "Jammin" Jason from the HotMix 5 was mixing and singer Shannon was singing "Let The Music Play". From thereon dj'ing became something that I wanted to pursue. I started learning/dj'ing for a short period of time with my cousin (George "Cookin" Aquino) who was a well known Dj from a crew called Logan Square Dj Spinners/Tropical Dance Promotions.
We did house parties, weddings, cotillions, sweet 16s,Tanya's Banquets on Milwaukee,Orthodox Hall on Kedzie,Centrum Hall,St. Sylvestre's,Carl Schurz High School,Darwin Elementary,Palm Gardens Sport Lounge on Armitage and many private parties/venues.
I was also on the B-Boy scene in crew called the "Chicago Streetmasters" and in a graffiti crew called "U.P.S United Painting System". I lived just across the street from the famous Ralphie "Rockin" Rosario and would often hear him practising on the turntables. I used to love cruising down the avenues like Fullerton and Milwaukee,26th st,18th st,Rush and Division,Lakeshore Dr.,Oak Street Beach,North Ave Beach,Addison Rocks,Irving Park and Montrose Beaches,Hollywood Beach, and the Sheridan Road Cruise.
My path to becoming a full fledged dj ended when I made some mistakes from hanging with the wrong crowds back in 1990 but I have been back since 1993 and life, family, friends, and freedom are the most important things to cherish and should not be taken for granted.
