??? Frequently Asked Questions ???
Where do you get your music sheets?
New print music is available from music shops, piano shops, even in some bookstores.
(Older print music is avail in secondhand book stores & some Op shops . I do support the song writers & the music industry by buying the print music. In the background of some of the videos you will see my music library.
Please do not ask for Sheet Music.
I am NOT in youtube to distribute music.
Can You Do A Tutorial ?
The objective is to show performances and to showcase a varied repertoire.
There will be videos showing just the hands only. I wont be able to do tutorias because I will be overseas most of the time !. (pardon the pun)
How do you learn the music & get the feel ?
Listen to the music several times..put it in your mp3 player & listen while you work, drive or go for a walk.
How do you improvise and enhance the song ?
This is an evolving process as you become a better musician. It's important to know your scales, arpeggios & chord inversions. Practice playing some melodies in octaves and add harmonies to complement it.
How do you play well ?
Lots of practice, keep a positive attitude & focus on doing well. If you make mistakes (as we all do). just smile & carry on.
Most of all Love and enjoy what you're doing.
Why do you change styles of music in your repertoire ?
A good musician/entertainer must be able to do a range of styles and genres of music.
Too many pianists only do classical. There are pianist who only do Jazz and there are pianist that play the same pieces day in day out. It is a challenge and a lot of work to do different styles. It is more enjoyable to do a varied repertoire and you are in demand as a versatile piano player. You get the best playing engagements, because you can entertain all age groups.
Why don't you do Classical music ?
Although musical lineage goes back to Beethoven, played enough Classical pieces & want to move on. (refer to above )
Why did you stop teaching piano ?
I believe a good teacher must have the students best interest and be devoted to teaching. Just too busy so decided to stop teaching for now. May get back to it later.
Are You a Filipino ? Question I get asked a lot. Heritage comes from (Filipino / Spanish). Grew up in Australia.
A fine blend of Cultures & history that makes my life so vibrant. ^_^
