Try cutting pieces of carpet up and putting under your tip up so the hole doesn't freeze up. Or better yet, get some horse trailer matting or the weightlifting rubber mats and cut them into 14x16 pieces, drill a hole in the center and cut a line to the hole to push the tip up in it.
