Madame get the biggest caliber which you can handle. It is not because it is small and easy to handle the recoil and you are going to get it. Get a bigger caliber which you can still control the recoil even at rapid fire. If you can handle a .45 caliber why not get it.

I hope that Colt, Springfield and other 1911 makers will make a 1911 design pistol with polymer lower receiver or even only the grip to reduce rusting on the firearm. I think there is a 1911 style pistol( Bol-M5) whose grip is plastic or polymer.
