With roots in Kentucky bluegrass and classic rock, and early awarding experience playing gospel music at the 1997 Dove Award Spotlight Competition, Billy Riggs established the Billy Riggs Band upon moving to San Francisco, CA in 2003. With D. Feeney on bass, C. Villarreal on drums and occasional appearances by K. Peters, G. Riggs, and R. Sanders, the group has formed a strong musical presence in the SF Bay Area and beyond.During his early career in his hometown of Louisville, KY, Billy formed two bands The Hermits and Next Exit. In 1997 he joined The Elms for a National Spotlight Competition for emerging artists. After attending university, where he studied architecture / art history and produced a thesis that involved writing, recording and producing contemporary interpretations of classic church hymns, he began to collaborate with his younger brother Gabe to develop his Billy Riggs Band sound.
Since that time he has continued to perform, write and produce. In addition to his own music he has worked with his brother Gabe (http://www.gabrielriggs.com/music.html) and drummer C. Villarreal on various projects (http://www.myspace.com/theillness). He also recorded and produced an award-winning children's album with artist Frances England (http://www.francesengland.com/)
In addition to his songwriting Billy has PhD in City Planning from UC Berkeley, makes beer and wine out of his basement, and runs in marathons competitively.
