A French high-speed train (TGV) has smashed the world record for a train on conventional rails by a big margin, reaching 574.8km/h (356mph).

maybe because the railway system in France is public, so when they decide to open a new line, it's easier than in the states.
moreover the regular cruising speed is "only" around 300km/h so for long distances like Denver-NY it's still a very long travel, while by plane it's much more faster.

I would like to say that the wire was tested using wire clamps and the Dyneema rope was spliced.
I would like to see the same test with metal wire spliced, clamps and knots can affect a lot the strength of the line.
