The great Windgassen did not have quite the heft of a true heldentenor (cf. Melchior or Vickers) but his voice was a magnificent instrument - he was born to be a dramatic tenor, in the highest sense of the word!

@MrSebtian Heidi Waleson the opera critic for the Wall Street Journal doesn't agree with you. She reviewed his Lohengrin (from this year's Bayreuth) this past week and raved about him. Unbelievable tone and reserves of power!

@yodavidnavarro She was smoking! I remember as a 16 yr old in the early 60s buying a La Boheme highlights LP (included Richard Tucker) with her Mimi (LP was for my mom). I saw her picture on the front - bummer; thereafter I expected all divas to look like her!

@RANDYS111 Dunbar was excellent, but Neil Peart of Rush is the best rock drummer ever. Whatever, though, Rush and Journey (at least in this period) REALLY did American rock proud.

@chloe7829 Amen. Although MacAllister in this section is excellent. I wonder if he was able to sustain throughout. Truly, the demands on the tenor in this opera usually kills him before the plot.

Loved the weary romanticism of Ocasek, but Ben's unapologetic, vulnerable romanticism was even better. Great voice, great presence.
