"Hot House" was written by the great bop composer Tadd Dameron, who also wrote the beautiful ballad "If You Could See Me Now".

The alto solo is Sonny Stitt, who was very underrated. Very similar to Parker but a contemporary, as the date of this recording indicates, not an imitator.

I saw this band in about 1980. Dex was so unique and brilliant. Kirk Lightsey is an amazing musician. This video gives you a brief glimpse of his immense talent and creativity.

They were Hal's Harmonizers because Hal Kratzsch formed the group and was the early driving force behind it.
