dialect is the result of a web of jam connections forged between the two New Jersey towns of Millstone and Allentown. Matt Lauritsen attended school with Ian O'loughlin from a young age, and the two participated in the school band together. Likewise, Liam Jaeger and Andy Williamson went to the same middle school and also were members of their school's band ensemble. While in high school, Matt and Ian became friends with Liam through band and began to jam together outside of school, forming a musical relationship. Through mutual friends Matt started playing with bassist Andy Williamson, and continued jamming with Liam in the summer of 2007. When the decision was made to form an official group, the three called up Ian to seal the deal by providing a second guitar and vocals. The group went on to practice all summer and make some low quality recordings at a friends house before leaving for college. In order to maintain the momentum the four jammed periodically and remained in close contact with one another. They began writing songs over Thanksgiving break of 2007 and continued to do so throughout the winter, ending with the recording of their three original songs in January 2008. Dialect played their first show that summer at Andy's college, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, before the four members once again returned to their separate schools. Now the group is looking toward a bright future driven by a great musical chemistry, respect for music, and respect for each other.
