Dia DiCristino was well on her way to becoming a successful opera singer when she was struck by bad health. In fact the same week she was due to sing for a very prestigious opera company's mangers, she suddenly was scheduled to have life saving brain surgery. One brain surgery turned into over 25 neurological procedures and an endless stream of medical problems that forced her to retire at only 26 years of age from her opera career.
In 2004 Dia released her first album produced by Wynford Evans and accompanied by Matthew Stanley, entitled "Five Songs" and included "The Angel's Farewell" from Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" and also the only recording ever made of Paul Norduff's "White Nocturne", a musical piece adapted from Conrad Aiken's poem.
In 2007 Dia released her second album full of jazz and broadway standards entitled "After the Storm", that faired well on the All About Jazz charts. Her album reached #9 in December 2007.
But little did she know that the storm was only beginning. Medical problems piled up and again forced Dia to halt her singing.
In 2010 Dia was having a brain MRI, one of hundreds that she has had to have in the past decade, when she suddenly became inspired again. She went home and composed a 3 part instrumental abstract piece entitled "Brain Drain" which is being used in the upcoming documentary "Arachnoid Cysts: Both Sides of the Pond". It was also that movie that inspired Dia to continue composing her own music, and in August 2011 she released the single "No Walk In The Park" which she dedicated to everyone who took part in the film and everyone fighting CSF disorders of the brain.
Her 3rd album, "Life Between Death", will be released on October 1st, 2011, and is a complete work of Dia DiCristino: written, performed and produced by herself.
