I paint. I don't know what it is I am painting when I start, and when I finish I sit back and stare at it the same as you do.

Many people ask, "What is the story here?"

I always answer by asking the viewer to tell me what story they see, and inevitably they are unique and varied. Whatever I had in my mind when the painting developed before me... it is not usually the same as what everyone else sees. And that's perfect! My job is not to tell a specific story, but to help you use your imagination in telling one of yours.
