Obviously the last scene was written with the intent of a series taking off from there. Too bad it was never picked up, even for just a season. Could've been an opportunity to showcase some real applied science and engineering on television and inspire young viewers to go into those fields.

Loved the show as a kid, my favorite. But now, LOL, I see how campy and unrealistic it was. They make Steve out to be superhuman, like Wolverine or something, with metal infused bones that cannot be broken. I mean come on, he's got a bionic arm and legs, I could see those parts being very durable...

@stegatops Agreed, I wish more movies were like this. Unfortunately, big studio American made movies are now just smart ass, thrill rides; insipid and callow. They rely too much on special effects to sell tickets instead of good writing and dialoge. That's why I prefer indie films.

Voight was nearly unrecognizable, and his performance amazing. I can't think of a film ending more dark and powerful than this. Definitely a Russian theme going on there. TNG is always so inspiring. A big part of it is these two characters and actors, and of course the writers. Who knew so much philosophy, morality, humanity and ethics could be discovered on a starship traveling through the vast emptiness of deep space.
