The predecessor of the band was formed in 1995 as The Art of Dethronement. After gaining 3rd place in an all-Hungarian heavy metal talent contest in 1999 they recorded their first EP titled "Down on My Knees". The album was published by Metal Hammer.
In the year 2001 there were changes in the lineup and thus the music became more subtle. The band continued working under the name of "the dethroners".
Their debut album was released in 2003 by NegativeArt Productions and covers the story of a Hungarian drama titled The Tragedy of Man. This metal version of the drama was recorded featuring various guest musicians and besides heavy metal it includes instrumental parts, string quartet, choir and also samplers. The lyrics are mainly in English, but they also contain some parts written in German, French and Latin.
Nowadays the dethroners are considered as well-known and dynamic members of the Hungarian rock/metal scene. Gradually changing from their early gothic style they created their own sound which can be determined as a some kind of melodic, progressive, complex metal.
While they managed to give concerts as local guests of Dead Soul Tribe, Paradise Lost and Anathema they have been promoted their debut album on the road.
Nowadays songs for the second album are being composed. Two new songs were recorded during spring 2004 at the band's home studio and another two were recorded in early 2005 in the studio of the Hungarian Radio. The lineup reformed in early 2004 is the most powerful one. The fact is that the group's live performances are stronger than ever. Their purpose is simple: play more live gigs to strengthen up for the recording of the new album.
