Like all VLF's hot ground is a problem and basalts can even give the PI's fits.
The GB pro is a great lil unit more suited to the person who wants a good "all around" detecter that is decent on gold. IMEO (in my expert opinion) the GB ll is still the better choice for prospecting for tiny nugget...

Great idea but poor material choice for the tubes
Sell the cans for scrap use the funds to purchase thin wall tubing like electric EMT pipe less labor, no drilling, gluing or washing, A smaller pipe = more surface area exposed to the sun = more heated area in same size box = more hot air.
