About Me:

Daniel Stein recently completed his doctoral coursework at the Indiana University Jacobs School of music, where he served as Associate Instructor of Flute. Mr. Stein has been a finalist at auditions for the Boston Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Minnesota Orchestra. In 2009 he was co-principal flutist of the international YouTube Symphony Orchestra, which performed at Carnegie Hall to a sold-out crowd and a worldwide Internet audience. He has also appeared with the New World Symphony and Boston Philharmonic, as guest principal flutist with the St. Louis Symphony and Nashville Chamber Orchestra, and in recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and The Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater. An avid performer of contemporary music, Mr. Stein has been a member of the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble and the Indiana University New Music Ensemble. His performances of new music have taken him to Medellin, Colombia and the DAM Festival in Prishtina, Kosovo. He was the winner of Indiana University's 2009 woodwind concerto competition, playing the Flute Concerto by Christopher Rouse.

Mr. Stein completed his university training at MIT in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Music. His research work included a number of projects in Music Informatics. MIT awarded him the 2005 Louis Sudler prize, given to a single graduating senior for contributions to the arts. As a Fulbright scholar, he studied at the Conservatoire de Genève, Switzerland, from 2005-2006. He has performed during the summers at the Tanglewood Music Center, Spoleto USA Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, and Music Academy of the West. His teachers include Thomas Robertello, Mark Sparks, Jacques Zoon, Marianne Gedigian, and Linda Toote.

Mr. Stein lives outside of Seattle, where he works as a Program Manager for Microsoft.
