Desert Music Stories highlights the successful collaboration between Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre, Winanjjikari Music Centre and Barkly Regional Arts in Tennant Creek. Running since 2009, the project aims to increase our students' understanding of Indigenous culture, not with a textbook or token lecture, but by providing them with the opportunity to work alongside local Indigenous artists. It aims to present the students with vocational opportunities in remote Australia, and provide assistance and support to local Indigenous artists in the Tennant Creek community. In 2012 the project is associated with an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Innovation and Development Grant awarded to a cross-institutional team led by Dr. Brydie-Leigh Bartleet.
