Dennis Lau Electric Violinist/ Songwriter DIVERSIFY - DENNIS LAU DEBUT ALBUM LAUNCHED Kuala Lumpur, 12 November 2009 Multi-talented Dennis Lau, solo violinist/song writer, shows Asia that a small city lad can have it all with some hard work, true passion and dedication. As the first Malaysian instrumentalist ever to be signed by Sony Music Entertainment, the launch of his debut album, DiversiFy, marks a momentous beginning. The album has a total of 11 tracks and includes collaboration with a number of well recognized local and overseas acts. Diversify was composed and produced solely by Dennis, and features compositions that amalgamate jazz, pop and the classics. The launch was just a small demonstration of his musical talent as he performed in collaboration with soprano singer, Syafinaz Selamat. Another highlight was Dennis surprise performance with fellow rising star and beatboxer extraordinaire, Shawn Lee. StarHill Gallery provided the location for the launch and catered the event with delights from their restaurant, Shook. My first album, DiversiFy, showcases how diverse the violin can be as an instrument. Truth be told, the violin is the closest instrument to the human voice. I would like to show people that there is more to the violin than just the classical sound. The tracks on this album have hints of R&B, Jazz, Pop and Hip Hop to give a funky, fresh, and modern twist, said Dennis Lau, solo violinist and song writer. Sony Music Entertainment, particularly Managing Director Mr. Adrian Lim, realized the potential of this exceptional young man and his original compositions. With little hesitation, they signed Dennis onboard to begin what would be an extraordinary journey with one of Malaysias own talent. Dennis has a strong vision of his future and he has known what to do with his music instinct from a very young age. No doubt the passion in him has transformed into this fantastic album. The fact that he produced and composed DiversiFy is a truly remarkable achievement for this young gentleman. Dennis Lau is a talented local artist that we all should be proud of as Malaysians, said Mr. Adrian Lim, Managing Director of Sony Music Entertainment in Malaysia. Dennis Lau's name will be something to watch out for in the Entertainment world, he added. Dennis appeal is not just limited to our nation, as this electric violinist/songwriter has already performed in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Korea. There is no doubt that his popularity will transcend our borders. Dennis has sought the dynamic vocals of various artistes, such as Syafinaz Selamat, Liang, Atilia Haron and local rapper Shazzy, to embellish the album. Many of the tracks are a collaborative effort with Malaysias premier saxophonist, Mr. Jimmy Sax, who has gained the title of Malaysias Kenny G. Dennis has a long standing rapport with Jimmy, collaborating numerous times at many prominent events. Their sensational performances of Dennis original compositions Prelude in F Minor and I Just Wanna, leave audiences in awe. Other artistes and creative minds that Dennis has worked with include Yuri Wong (most known for creating the score to Upin and Ipin, a popular Malay series), Majestik (a South African rapper), Nick Lee (award winning mixing and mastering engineer), musician Tay Cher Siang, Lewis Pragasam, Ken Chung, Jamie Wilson, Tay Kewei as well as the Beijing and GuangZhou Symphony Orchestra (with famed Chinese arranger Peng Fei). His growing success and passion for music is a testament to his mother, who encouraged him at a tender age to pursue his musical endeavours. Dennis shares his love and appreciation for his mother with mention of her in his album. Dennis has been the sought after entertainment for countless memorable events, royal soirees and the like. But he does not limit himself to performing solely for the niche crowd, so to speak. Like they say, music has no boundaries, especially music that is as diverse as this. Sony Music Entertainment is responsible for distributing the album and has made it widely available in major music stores such as Rock Corner and CdRama.
