I love this old song. Thanks out to Alan for reminding me of it and for the WMM advice.
I took this photo while at one of my favorite places in the world. It's a collection of lakes and ponds near the Ohio River. (There's one immediately to my left in the photo.) I love being in the middle of nowhere. Indiana offers a lot of that. I like it even more if I can get far enough out to lose cell phone reception. Than again, I have no problem turning my cell phone off when I want.

I have watched many YouTube videos on get home bags or bug out bags and the one thing missing in every video I watched was the single most important thing below air water and shelter.
Proper well fitting footwear, that's right shoes! Without well fitting comfortable and durable footwear you're not going to get very far. This is especially important for office workers and even more important toward women office workers, if you think you're going to pull off your high heels and run barefooted you will not get very far running barefooted through broken glass and other debris. Even. Dress shoes will have your feet screaming in pain on all but the shortest of hikes. Ideally a good fitting pair of hiking boots are best however if you are more budget minded a good fitting pair of cross trainer athletic shoes will suffice. Remember that proper fitting footwear is essential secondly the footwear should offer maximum support you may want to get added arch support or orthotic inserts. Several changes of non-cotton socks are also a must, wool or a newer material called CoolMax is best. Just remember not to wash your CoolMax materials with fabric softener, fabric softener will obstruct the moisture wicking properties of the CoolMax fabric. So after you have an extra pair of good fitting shoes and four extra pairs of socks you may want to top off your foot comfort with some medicated foot powder to sprinkle in your shoes, not inside your socks. That way if you are on an extended hike you should stop at each watering hole to change your socks and wash the pair you have on so late they can dry for the next stop.
