Botzy - "Past Tense", free download available at www.BuckFotzy.com
Minneapolis rapper Botzy has come a long way since fronting the genre-hopping band Culture Cry Wolf, and since going solo this past year, he's taken his work to the next level.
His latest free download - "Past Tense", available October 29 - is a listen that highlights his progressing comfort as a craftsman and his growing positive attitude towards life. Rooted in the present moment, the title refers to overcoming tension, and you can hear it in the chilled jazz and R&B samples or the freewheeling lyrics.
A short turnaround from this summer's Buck Fotzy, Botzy wrote and recorded the six song EP with a looseness that gives the record a fun and light-hearted vibe. His signature introspective approach to rap remains, only more focused and self-assured. Though rooted in a down-tempo golden age milieu, it's an adventurous record.
Guests Sean Anonymous and Phillip Morris show up to help Botzy boast on "Clowns Die Young", while Sophia Eris provides some lush melodies to the lead single "Ride The Beat". It's a brisk and refreshing record that adds another chapter to Botzy's steady movement forward.
Release Date: July 9th, 2013
Botzy is the consummate Minneapolis rap hustler, recognizing that work ethic extends into every facet of his musical journey. You'll see it on stage and off, the hungry approach to both his craft and his movement, and the passion behind his art from all sides culminates in an impressive final product.
While cutting teeth since 2009 rapping in the genrebending live band Culture Cry Wolf, Botzy's been able to fine tune his voice and energy enough to handle both solo and group creative efforts. When he attacks tracks on his own as he has on 2010's Deaf to the Static, various mixtapes, and his upcoming release Buck Fotzy the songs bare his individual signature, spinning tales of soured relationships and personal struggle with a grin and a sense of humor. Having always held the spark to write and inspire others, his initial work with GAHEDiNDIE ( now known as "Moody Black" ) and by extension, P.O.S., Carnage, and other MInneapolis heavyweights shaped his skill with all facets of rap creation.
Bouncing around different cities until finally landing in Minneapolis in 2008, whose scene fit his rhythm and aesthetic impeccably, Botzy has been putting in work as a show curator in addition to his own performances. The successful Best Love Is Free showcase and mix CD release is entering its fifth year of increasing turnouts, and the support Botzy lends other artists within the local community is impressive.
As a solid figure already in the Minneapolis rap scene, Botzy is ready with the release of Buck Fotzy to take his music to the next level.
