The DRGW#315 has made several successful historic runs in Durango,CO. and Chama, N.M. in '07 and '08, after sitting in parks in Durango,CO. for 58 years! Jim was one of the founders of DRHS in 2001,was the former President of the Society, and weekly volunteer in the restoration for 7 years. It is one beautiful little engine and sounds and runs great, (thanks to Dennis D'Alessandro,VP and chief Mechanical Officer.)
Jim also helped restore Motor 5 (Galloping Goose) in Delores,Co. for about 3 years and was motorman a few times.
We are both fans of steam, and have been on the Conway RR,N.H, the SVRR,OR, EBT and Strasburg RR,PA. The Grand Canyon RR, AZ. Roaring Camp and Big Trees,Felton, Ca. several times. Mt. Rainier Scenic RR, Elbe, Wa. Rail town, the movie railroad, Jamestown, Ca., Georgetown Loop, C&TS, D & S. Also the Cass Scenic RR.,W.V. a few years ago. In Oct.'08 we took the RGLP Route from Alamosa Co. It was a really pretty fall ride. The D&S RR and C&TS RR are our favorites, of course.
We have lived outside of Durango, Co. for 15 yrs. Moved here from San Luis Obispo, Ca.in 1995.
Hope you enjoy these videos, we sure enjoyed taking them! The next #315 video probably won't be until sometime in Aug. or Sept. 2009. For those that haven't heard, #315 is now stored in the historic old Silverton Northern engine house,in Silverton, Co. for the winter. Plans are to install track from the engine house to the Silverton line next summer (July or August ) and someday, lay track to Howardsville then Eureka, by the SJCHS and DRHS & with grants from the CHS.
You can go to the website for info. on the history, restoration, and photos of some of the excursions. There are still several photos taken at the C&TS and D&S's Railfest to be put on there yet, including photos that some of the riders generously shared.

The #315 is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It recently received a Steam Locomotive Restoration award from the Tourist Railway Association. The #315 will have two excursions Sept. 13-14, 2009 on the C&TS RR. This is associated with the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Colorado Springs Sept. 16-19, 2009. Tickets will be sold on the C & TS website.
The DRHS was awarded a grant of 179,655 for the SN trackage project, from the Co. Historical Society. It includes rail trackage, reconstruction, engine house rehab. and interpretive signage of the SN RR. Work will begin whenever the snow is gone. Also the restoration of two gondolas will begin. Volunteers are welcome!! Contact the Pres. of the DRHS for information. (THE TWO GONDOLAS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO THE WORK SITE OUTSIDE OF DURANGO FOR RESTORATION, WORK WILL BEGIN ON THEM SOON) There have been 3 work sessions on the drop bottom gon so far.
