Mk1 and Mk2 Golfs are indeed good solid cars, no doubt about that.
They were made when VW was all about quality.
I said in my comment that Mk4 (98-04) golfs are pure muck, they really lost their way with them. Its a real shame because they can make some cracking cars when they want.
