takes me about 30 minutes to 45 to flat iron mine and mine's shoulder length. when i was 12, 8 yrs ago, perm took my hair out. never had a perm since. i love flat irons, though. never had any damage from them.

I'm not really a fan of protective styles for myself because i feel as though i wouldn't be able to fully enjoy my hair the way i like if it were always pinned up. it would so defeat the purpose of having it if i couldn't wear it loose.

@thickyg567 in my case, my hair doesn't have much of a curl pattern anymore because i've flat ironed mine so much that the texture doesn't show unless it's wet. the more you flat iron, the less kink or curl you end up with over time.
