About this user
Dawnbreak was started in September 2006 by lead guitarist Jesper Fleckner Gravholt and front singer Viktoria Boyding. After quite a lot of struggles with finding the 2 last band members Dawnbreak was now on February 2007 officially formed. The band was formed under the name "Butterfly Effect", and went under that name at their concert-debut on May 1st 2007. Already 2 days later the band had their 2nd show, and many more were to come. The 3rd show on May 12th was a show of very great importance of the bands present career and is also still a day worth remembering, not to mention that this was also where Dawnbreak was introduced to their present bass player, Allan Lund. The show took place at "Rock Underground" in the hometown of the band, Aars, and was a big success. This was also where the video for the song "Too Easy to Forgive" was shot.
But yet another remarkable day was on its way. On June 1st Dawnbreak competed (first time live with their new bassist) in the competition "Rock for Sjov", which they turned out to win. The reward was, among other things, an 8-our day in "Dreamland Studio" in Nibe where Dawnbreak now recorded the first version of "Keep Looking Back".
The summer holiday was coming up, and Dawnbreak went to the studio to begin the recordings of 3 more tracks for the 4-track EP. Though this would seem as an easy job, it was a protracted process and Dawnbreak only finished the EP in June 2008. Dawnbreak was still, at this point, going under the name "Butterfly Effect", but discovered that it was already taken. The name "Dawnbreak" was now, for the first time, discussed during the recordings of the EP. The band wanted to find a name which symbolized the contrast between the hard sound of rock and the soft vocal and which both carried the message of the melodic and the hard aspects of the music. Many names were discussed but what else than day and night describes the contrast better.
On September 9th 2007 the band played their first official concert as "Dawnbreak" at "Thy Festivals". 10 days later Dawnbreak had their next gig and because of some difficulties regarding getting along, Dawnbreak now, on September 18th, played their last concert with their former drummer Kim Korgaard, who is responsible for all the drums on the EP.
Less than a month later Dawnbreak had their live debut with their present drummer, Mikkel Farsø. The band was in quite a hurry because of the show coming up just after the split up, but Mikkel managed to learn the tracks before the gig.
About 7 months later on May 25th, the day before a show, the EP was finally, after almost a year, done and printed in a 1000 copies. Had it only been predicted that Dawnbreak was now to experience a big turning point of their career.
Dawnbreak had been in contact with legendary producer and songwriter Mike Chapman, but didn't now that he was about to offer his help on remixing the tracks on the EP. At first Mike Chapman showed greatest interest in the track "Father of Blood", and it all started with him mixing that one track, which of course was a huge step further for the band! Since that day Dawnbreak have had so much "omtale i diverse medier". Here is what Mike Chapman says about Dawnbreak:
Keep this in mind. You have a singer with an extraordinary voice and that is what really matters.
Great songs, played great and delivered by an amazing singer."
