@gregmartyr I appreciate that you mentioned about the kick placements...kicks occur on the 3rd stroke of the 4th triplet and on the 1st stroke of the 1st triplet - leaving a "double-kick" as one measure leads into the next measure...

@xxmickeyzeroxx I appreciate your point about 2 separate grooves...actually, although I feel that Phrase did an overall good job here, separating out the kick pattern may sometimes make it sound more difficult than necessary...as drummers (including myself) might get more proficient at using the ...

@xrevolutionrocker To add to xrevolutionrocker's comment, ghost notes can add extra texture/dimension to the sound of the drumming/percussive aspect of the song...a good ghost note is heard and yet at the same time almost imperceptible - as if there is something there, but you can't put your fing...

@mechmove I recall hearing Keith say in another YT video that he was originally in something akin to drum corp - and that things changed/helped when he was taught the Moeller technique (which he seemed to say is not prominent in drum corp)...

@bossman12334 The dane looks like a later stage pup - but I was still concerned that a rapid tug could hurt the child's neck in a serious manner...maybe the parents knew the extent of the dane's strength/actions (etc.)...

For drummers who are used to hearing/playing more easily discernible time signatures, this type of improv jazz can really be a challenge...also, I was somewhat surprised to see matched grip with a jazz drummer (like Stewart)...

@pablobiogeo I could agree with you...I have thought that playing jazz improv and perhaps jazz fusion (e.g., Weckl) were the ultimate...I find it either difficult or near-impoosible to discern the time sigs...

Playing more quietly/lightly is part of the "control" issue - but the other consideration is for drummers to mature as musicians - i.e., considering what would or would not sound appropriate with a given song...many, many years ago, some of my band members wanted me to play drums on the Beatles' ...
