If you consider that Leonardo was a fairly good painter and he wanted to show his model was covered in gauze you would be able to see it with the naked eye. To me it looks like an overpainting taking some of the bulk out of the model, which would make her more in proportion to her hands.

The writer is Eric Bogle. His intro to the song makes it clear that the song is about WW1. And if they were piping The Flo'rs of the Forest at his funeral Willie would have been Scots. However much anyone would like it to be about the Irish Uprising - it ain't.
