About this user

A world renowned poet, writer and filmmaker, Steve "Tehut-Nine" McAlpin was born in Kingston, Jamaica. As a filmmaker he is the classic example of an autodidact. His love for movies drove him to learn the art and creative process of filmmaking through voracious reading and studies of the masters as he calls them, i.e. Spike Lee, Perry Henzel, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Brian De Palma, Oliver Stone, Alfred Hitchcock, Michael Mann, etc. In 2005 he co-wrote, shot, directed and produced his first full-length feature film FOREIGN (2005) a Caribbean comedy. Foreign was an instant hit with Caribbean communities across the United States. Shortly after Foreign's release Tehut-Nine began working on "BASHMENT: The Fork in The Road" his second film. Within six months after completing the script (which he co-wrote with Mykal Fax) Tehut-Nine and his associates put together a cast and crew. Wearing multiple hats Tehut-Nine not only co-wrote, co-starred and co-produced Bashment, but also Directed and Edited the entire movie. On April 25, 2007 Bashment debuted at Linden Boulevard Multiplex Cinemas movie theatre in Brooklyn to a sold out audience. On July 22, 2007 The Jamaica Gleaner wrote, "Credit the talented [Steve "Tehut-Nine"] McAlpin and his crew. Bashment outpaces many Jamaican-made films that have come before. The drama and intrigue make it take a back seat to none, not even the classic THE HARDER THEY COME. It compares more favorably with films by Black American Spike Lee." He's currently working on scripts for three new films "What Goes Around", "American Boops" and "Jamerica" respectively slated to begin production in Winter 2007, Spring 2008 and Summer 2008.
