This was a fun show - an hour-long situation comedy with singing and dancing. But it was probably a good thing that it only lasted 13 episodes or Mary would not have been available to appear in her 0scar nominated role in 0rdinary People...

For years l thought she as singing "sister won't you serve my favorite round" instead of "soothe my fevered brow." - makes a lot more sense now. :-)

After the movie wrapped production, Meryl asked if she could re-record this song and this is the version you're hearing now. She thought she could do it better, and she did!

I love her voice!

Her 1999 album 'Color of Silence' is sooooo underrated. Excellent songwriter and performer who sadly never got the appreciation she deserved in recent years.

Weird seeing her wedding photo - MJ and Elizabeth are gone and David Gest is thankfully gone from her life.

You can tell Mary was devastated when the show ended. She wanted to go on for another season or two, but the producer/writers wanted to move on and she didn't want to risk diminishing the quality of the show by hiring new ones.

@myzzio It's just a nervous tick. She loves acting but is very self-conscious when she is appearing as herself in front of an audience. l think that's also why she said she didn't know where the steering wheel was in the rental car, which l am sure was not true.

It's also worth pointing out that Mary is playing a fictional character in this show, "Mary McKinnon" who starred in her own variety show. Mary Tyler Moore is from Brooklyn, NY not Birchfield, IL.

Great interview, but l noticed that when Linda is speaking, Emmylou often looks like she's cringing inside... maybe not - but check out her reaction when Linda talks about "love of self - the final frontier."

These characters are so sweet, you just want to reach thru the screen and hug them. Especially Emmet and his adorable mother, singing her little otter heart out.

Maude had a completely different body than Dorothy on Golden Girls. Bea Arthur decided to lose weight around 1980 and she never gained any of it back.

This CD is sooooo damn good. Surprised it didn't spawn any hits...but they recorded it for fans of good music, not the airplay.

Wow, her pronunciation is impeccable. Saw her do these songs live and her performance was beyond perfection. Not one bad note and she as doing 8 two-hour shows a week at Radio City.

@666543jh Don't lose hope - she has said she was retiring in the past and ended up recording great albums with Emmylou Harris and Ann Savoy and going on concert tours.

Her voice sounds like a musical instrument - simply amazing.

She was Barbra Streisand's understudy in Funny Girl but l don't think she ever got to go on. Barbra called in sick one night and then rushed to the theater at the last minute.

This show was a riot. I loved when Nell would answer the phone and scream 'NO THERE IS NO JULIO HERE!!'

Wow, this show just went on and on with different top-billed stars. Remember Louise Lasser?

They cut out the part where they sing 'with no misgivings, it's a living' - very clever theme song.
